Re: Another Farmer Killed in Farming Thresher Accident
A thresher separates the grains from the rest of the plant. That thresher is manual feed, so a person places bales of harvested plants onto the horizontal feed chute, and nudges the bales toward that rotating drum. The drum is fitted with tines to cut apart the bailing twine and stalks, and feed the mix to the next threshing stage. The person loading the thresher often needs to pull back on the bales so they are fed slowly enough for the drum to do its job. These accidents occur then the loader gets his hand caught in a loop of bailing twine or stalk as he is trying to moderate the feed rate. When that happens, he gets drawn into the rotating drum hands first, then arms, then head, trunk, etc. He would have been in shock and pain for a few seconds until the first tine hit his skull, then lights out. |
