American Airlines 587 Crash (Runway View) - JFK Airport 2001
This is the actual footage of the last moments of this flight and all on board. AA 587 was a wide-bodied A300 was carrying 251 passengers and a crew of 9. They encountered severe wake turbulance caused by a JAL 747-400 that took off just before them. The pilot was attempting to stablize the flight by using invasive foot rudder movements. This caused the vertical stabilizer to separate from the plane rendering this flight unrecoverable. I was on a Northwest Airlines flight that was two take-offs behind this. I watched this plane dive into the ground and explode killing everyone on board and several on the ground. It was hard to miss as the runway that we were on bordered Jamaica Bay and across from JB, was low-level housing. The plane was full of fuel and was en route to the Dominican Republic. This was particularly terrifying as it was only two months post 9/11 and there was no immediate answer to the crash. As you can imagine, it was chaotic on my plane. Minutes after takeoff, the flight attendent from the rear of the aircrafe ran, I mean literally RAN to the front of the plane. A very brave lady, she was. We just turned the corner to take off when this flight crashed. I and others on the flight were paralyzed with fear just waiting to see if our flight was going to advance into takeoff. We didn't. I have never seen people get off of a plane with such deliberation, me included. To make things even more horrific in my case, my mother, who was on a separate flight from me, took off minutes earlier on a Delta Airlines flight. I could not make out which airline was crashing at the time. What you are witnessing in the first video is flight 587 taking off and the seconds after it crashed as caught by a construction site camera at JFK. The second video is a compilation of news footage from that day. The initial news was speculative that the flight was heading to JFK when it was actually departing JFK. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Americ...nes_Flight_587 |

Re: American Airlines 587 Crash (Runway View) - JFK Airport 2001
But by moving your home 6 miles you will only move the epicentre of the accident hotspot by 6 miles. What you really need to do is stay temporarily away from home every night, at a distance of 6 miles or more, thereby avoiding the majority of accidents.

Re: American Airlines 587 Crash (Runway View) - JFK Airport 2001
I love how they report that it was likely a B767...you know, cuz that's what was used during 9/11 so it's the likely aircraft, again. I hate sloppy journalism. I hate hype reporting. |
