Sorry, we were never brave enough to screw on TOP of the tracks. Being 'nestled under the trestle"
was good enough for us.

I only ran into ONE railroad policeman in all the years I walked the tracks. When I was about 8, an old guy came up to me while I was looking at a switch. (I wanted to see how different they were from the ones I had on my HO layout at home) whipped out his "Railroad Police" badge, and gave me a kindly lecture on the dangers of cutting locks off of switches, and how I would spend the rest of my life in prison if a car came off the track. (Like a goofy 8 year old is going to be cutting locks off of railroad switches! If it HAD been unlocked, I would have been unable to move the lever on it. I could barely lift it into the horizontal position on the switch stand!) He looked like Broderick Crawford from "Highway Patrol", so naturally I was pretty impressed. That would have been in 1965 or so, so that guy is certainly dead by now. And I never saw another railroad policemen for the rest of the time
