Re: Roadside Euthanisia of A Snapping Turtle

No idea they could still be living with such damage. I always rescue turtles I see crossing the road--but never messed with any already hit...

Re: Roadside Euthanisia of A Snapping Turtle

Aww no! It brings back to mind when I was living in Virginia and always used to move snapping turtles off the road. Someone drove right over a young one as I was waving them down to stop them. The large cracking noise will stay with me forever. I was literally in tears. He had blood pouring out of him. There was nothing I could do to save him and I didn't know what else to do so I moved him off the road. I probably left him to die in agony. I feel bloody terrible now. It still makes me tear up thinking about him/her! Thanks for posting. I hope it reminds people to think about turtles and other animals that have been run over. I also remember reading that when opossums have been run over they may have live babies in their pouch.

That really upset me Im glad that guy was able to end its suffering quickly. Fucking idiots and their cars again, always in a fucking rush to get somewhere 5 minutes ago, or chatting shit on their phones; concentrate on the road ahead ffs.

Poor soul. Good he was humanely put to sleep at least despite the awful circumstances.

Re: Roadside Euthanisia of A Snapping Turtle

Why would this guy expect someone to stop and see if a road squished turtle is dead or not? It's not worth risking your own safety unless you plan on making some turtle soup.

I have stopped on the road dozens and dozens of time. I guess my luck could be running out.
