Re: The Results of Chewing Tobacco...
Here in SW MO, a shit-ton of people still use smokeless tobacco. I'm not talking about pouched, leaf tobacco (like Red Man or Levi Garrett), but moist smokeless tobacco that comes in a round tin, like SKOAL, Copenhagen, etc. When I was working for Microsoft and driving all over the South-Central US visiting customer sites, I chewed for a couple of years to help stay awake while driving. That shit has many times more nicotine than a cigarette in each lipful. It was also popular in college to help stay awake while studying. It's not just a rural thing, as I knew plenty of folks who worked at Microsoft's Irving, TX office who dipped smokeless tobacco. I've been off that shit for many years now, but there are still a bunch of folks who still use that stuff. |

Re: The Results of Chewing Tobacco...
I think it surged in popularity when they made it damn-near impossible to smoke cigarettes. Small-pouched tobacco, like SKOAL Bandits, hide in your lip well and you can't tell if someone has one in. After that, keep an empty pop-can at your desk for the occasional spit and you've got indoor-friendly nicotine that is more satisfying than nicotine gums and patches. Once I got off heavy business-travel duties, I cut that shit out. Maybe it's a Midwest-US thing. I've lived in North Dakota and Minnesota and they chew up there. Oklahoma/Texas/Arkansas/Missouri, same thing. So I can only presume that the states in-between probably have folks who dip smokeless tobacco as well. |

A lot of farmers and ranchers chew- less chance of fire that way, I guess. Even some of the old gals! This poor guy looks real young. There must be more carcinogens in the stuff nowadays, you never heard of this 50-100 years ago. |
