A localized form of pemphigus vulgaris, the autoimmune disease which causes antibodies to attack the proteins desmoglein 1 and desmoglein 3. The destruction of these proteins causes the loss of cohesion between keratinocytes within the epidermis, leading to easily rupturing blisters in patients. Though the keratinocytes are not attached to each other, they’re often attached to the basement membrane, which can lead to “tombstoning.”

No end to these horrible medical conditions. One time I looked up "syndromes" to learn a little about each, and was horrified to find hundreds of them listed. Couldn't even put a dent in them.
