Carlos Gómez.- In a fit of madness, Edgar Vinicio Cornel, 37, attacked with a machete to his partner, who is in gestation, and daughter of five years, before being shot dead by police Civil National Police (PNC).

According to information provided by the inspector Jorge Aguilar Chinchilla, the PNC, the incident occurred yesterday at 4:00 pm in the village Santiago, in the municipality of Gualán, Zacapa.

Upon arrival, officers found that within a dwelling the subject physically assaulted his partner, identified as Naomi del Rosario Mancilla Garcia, 22, who as diagnosed by paramedics assessed that is 31 weeks of gestation, and also he used the knife against her young daughter, Dulce Maria Cornel Mancilla, of five years. To be discovered, Edgar Cornel attacked with the same machete to one of the agents, so he was shot dead by other agents.

The women and girls were taken by relief agencies to a hospital in the town, with serious wounds in various parts of the body, mainly in the head and face.
