Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma With Myiasis: Mouth Cancer and Maggot Infestation
Oral squamous cell carcinoma with myiasis is mouth cancer complicated by maggot infestation of the cancer wound. A case reported in 2011 involved a 44-year-old man in Brazil with invasive oral squamous cell carcinoma and myiasis affecting a wound involving the lower lip, chin and jaw. The larvae were removed by hand, and the wound was cleaned weekly. He died two months later. Oral myiasis is rare. It is associated with a mouth held open, poor oral hygiene, oozing lesions and cancer wounds. Also covered here: Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma With Myiasis: Mouth Cancer and Maggot Infestation |
