My Rat Bite

My pet rat Chico bit me in Jan 2012. He attacked my hand. He grabbed hold of me and just kept chomping down further and further. Eventually I pulled him off, closed the cage and made it to the bathroom and managed to get myself on the toilet before passing out! I have no idea how long I was out for but when I woke up I was slumped over the bath and the bathroom was like a murder scene!

I went to the hospital and had it cleaned and dressed and was sent home with antibiotics. I needed to go back to hospital for a check up and a dressing change and when they took the dressing off the doctor said "Oh. This is not good".

Next thing he's calling a plastic surgeon, sticking needles in me and i'm on a ward booked in for operations every 48 hours for what they thought was weeks.

Luckily I only had to have one operation to clean it out and after three days in hospital I was sent home with even more antibiotics.

I had contracted MRSA from the hospital. I had to have weeks of physio and almost lost the use of my hand! Two and a half years later its still very tender but its all healed!
