Minamata Mercury Poisoning
In 1932, a factory in Minamata, Japan, began releasing a mercury compound into local water. By the 1950s, people in the area were reporting strange convulsions in cats and other fish-eating animals - they called it the 'dancing cat disease'. The first human victim, a 5 year old girl, was discovered in 1956. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minamata_disease |

Re: Minamata Mercury Poisoning
Mercury poisoning is where the phrase, 'Mad as a Hatter', came from. Hat makers used mercury in the processing of the materials the hats were made from. It caused them to literally go mad.
