Little Girl with Patau Syndrome
I found a blog about a family of which their daughter has a rare and fatal disease. "Our beloved daughter was born by Caesarean section 23/1 2010. We immediately saw little Wilda was unique in many ways. The 28/1 she was diagnosed with Full Trisomy 13th Our world collapsed, and now we try to get every day to work and enjoy every second we spend with Wilda. She is with us only on borrowed time. Wilda is doomed. She will not live long ........ She is severely retarded. She is probably completely deaf and blind. She requires oxygen around the clock. She probe fed.She has seizures But she is a life. A small individual with feelings. She has no visible defects in the brain or other organs. She is an infant who requires a lot of time and lots of love. Who has the right to deny her a dignified life the moment she is with us?" Patau syndrome is a rare syndrome that involves a severe mental disorder, the syndrome is due to an incorrect number of chromosomes in the body celler.Pataus syndrome usually means a miscarriage or severely shortened lifespan. Most children with Patau live no longer than a month,Patau syndrome affects approximately one in 10,000 live births. Their blog http://wildavaregenangel.blogspot.com/ |

Re: Little Girl with Patau Syndrome
Okay sorry but the "severly retarded" sentence did make me giggle a bit, due to the abuse of that word. I can't take that word serious. But however, it is really sad. I hope they will some day come to find a cure for this. I mean, 1 of 10.000 is actually pretty many, when you come to think about it. |
