Lead Fishing Weight Strikes Man Like A Bullet
Had to translate this case as best I could 42-year-old male was fishing using a 5" long lead fishing weight. In a freak accident as he cast his line back, it struck his neck at lightening speed like a bullet and ended up inside him with the nylon line visibly hanging out and still held in his hand. Shocked, he walked to the nearest house to seek help. Emergency services turned up and immediately removed the hook before it pierced any of the delicate neck structures and blood vessels. Fortunately, the weight missed all the vital vessels and trachea so no great blood loss or breathing difficulty occurred which would have been life threatening. Surgeons had to completely open the chest and sternum during surgery and the impact site required six stitches. A heart surgeon nearing retirement wanted to do the procedure as he had never seen such an injury before and it was such an interesting case. |
