For the same reason he has those lumps on his head: Extra tissue so they can shape the result. He's in the middle of his surgeries in these pictures. They graft a sizeable piece of tissue with a good blood supply, and then reshape it once it's established itself on his face. The lumps in his hair are tissue expanders under the skin -- they slowly expand to create more scalp, which will then be moved over the parts that were burned away. He'll probably end up looking pretty good, actually.  |
