The doctor said it could've began as an insect bite, or an ingrown hair, or basically any infection. I only went to the hospital when the lump had localized fever, meaning the area was hot to the touch. I also began to alternately feel hot and cold, I'd be sweating for an hour, then get shivers for the next hour. But basically my body temp was close to 40 degrees Celsius (sorry, metric system user here). Apparently the fever was a sign of minor sepsis, the surgery confirmed it since the abcess had begun to leak into my blood stream. Also, a small area of flesh around the infection had begun to rot and die. I don't know what the medical term for this is, sorry. Anyway, I spent 2 weeks in the hospital getting pumped with 6 different antibiotics. Glad to say the wound has shrunk and is healing well, I go to get it cleaned once every couple of weeks now.  |
