Hydrocephalus: Infant With a Large Head
Hydrocephalus is a buildup of fluid inside the skull that puts pressure on the brain. It can begin before birth and is common in babies with myelomeningocele. Other causes include genetic defects and some infections during pregnancy. Signs in infants include a head larger than expected, a bulging soft spot, separated skull sutures, stretched scalp veins and eyes that gaze downward. Treatment may involve a shunt tube that drains fluid, usually into the abdomen. Endoscopic third ventriculostomy is another option. Untreated hydrocephalus can be fatal: up to 6 in 10 affected people die. Most children with hydrocephalus who survive for one year have a fairly normal lifespan.

Re: Hydrocephalus: Infant With a Large Head
it's not a "baby born with large head", that's a "large head born with baby" lol. But poor thing indeed. I always get so sad seeing this. I am worrying about which sony hdtv to get, 720p or 1080p, while people are born like this. It's just not right. D: |
