Re: Huge baby
There's no reason to think a mother of a child with hydrocephalus was on drugs. It's a condition caused by a blockage of normal drainage of the fluid that surrounds the brain. It is not uncommon. The reason you don't see kids in more developed countries like this is because doctors put a shunt in the child's head to drain the fluid. It makes me kind of angry when people assume that any parent of a child with a birth defect must have been using drugs. I work with some of these parents and their kids, and for ignorant people to accuse them of causing the problem when in reality it was a simple accident of genetics or development is really cruel. The fact that this child has lived to this age with untreated hydrocephalus indicates that this is a dedicated mother who spends her entire life caring for this kiddo. There is no reason to look for someone to blame when something like this happens to a child. Genetics are cruel sometimes. Not to mention the fact that hydrocephalus could also be a result of encephalitis or some other infection that damaged the brain's normal drainage system. Don't judge the mothers trying to care for their sick babies. Judge the mothers who have normal babies and then beat, abuse, and starve them. (if you were talking, by the way, about a prescribed medication, I still dislike the language of blaming the mother who took only what doctors gave to her) |
