This is a rare skin condition, very severe. Causes death due to infection. What it does, is makes the skin very thick and hard, usually growing over the eyes. It then cracks leaving open wound, making the person more open to infection.

...although that second one looks quite unbelievable. There is a TV documentary about some teenage girls that have this disease.

There are multiple types of Ichthyosis, in which Harlequin is the most sever. Some of the "survivors" are people with less severe versions, of which there are, as far as I can find out, 28 variations of the disease.
