From my point of view, watching people die regularly where I work, (McDonalds), it is made as peaceful an end as possible. If that guy was in a care home or hospital he would have been on high doses of morphine or some other kind of pain relief. I would rather see them slip away than struggle to breathe like he was. And I personally do NOT want any religious utterances when I go. We don't let pets suffer like we allow humans to suffer.
Oh and I don't really work at Mcdonalds. (But people do die regularly).

I'm sure the reading of scripture was a comfort to him, just as it was to have his family and loved ones there. Just because you may not have the same belief doesn't mean he passed away in a stupid fashion. It matters more that he felt at peace for it.

Granted, I would have wanted to give him something to ease the passing, rather than have him struggling for every last breath. =( That would be incredibly hard to witness.

now to be fair, in the name of science, a supernova rolls with a temperature at 60,000 degrees... even though we can accurately predict with 'science' that the big bang would have been on a larger scale than a super nova, and more than likely more heat.
