Child with Hydrocephalus

Hydrocephalus is excessive accumulation of fluid in the brain. Infants and young children with hydrocephalus typically have abnormally large heads, as in this case.

Re: Child with Hydrocephalus

Why does this poor baby not have a shunt in his head or neck or wherever they drain the CSF/brainjuice? Probably a 50 cent piece of steel (cost 2,000,000 if DOD involvement) would cure the poor little one. Very very sad...

Re: Child with Hydrocephalus

In most developed countries, this baby would have had a shunt put in to drain the fluid long before the head got this swollen. This kid has been like this for a while, apparently... part of the reason he's so skinny is because the fluid puts pressure on parts of the brain that cause vomiting, so he can't keep any food down.

Re: Child with Hydrocephalus

It's definitely deceased, 'cause that's not a pacifier. It's the mouthpiece from being intubated. Also, check the eyes. Poor kid's passed on. And jeez, the flesh over it's skull was stretched beyond the elastic point; it was open and weeping. Didn't live long, thank goodness, but what about it's mother's BIRTH CANAL???

They don't necessarily come out with a gigantic head... the hydrocephalus can develop after they are born.
