Burns So Severe They Need Escharatomy
A 35 year-old man was involved in a house fire and sustained extensive severe burns, particularly affecting his trunk and upper limbs. The patient is shown undergoing an escharatomy. Once eschar formation occurs the skin loses its expansibility and becomes restrictive. Progressive edema due to capillary leak, especially following fluid resuscitation, can have dire consequences. An escharotomy may be needed to release the burn and allow expansion. Click to enlarge and admire tattoo |

Re: Burns So Severe They Need Escharatomy
You have to keep those cuts clean so there is no infection and probably put silvadene cream on him for awhile, if they do that with such severe burns. I never knew some people had to be cut for expansion, but, I guess if the person is alive, the skin is tight from burning. Then, the aloe ;) |
