Bone Coming Through..
My dad had surgery last year. He had to have his eye removed, a tumor right behind his eye, bone from the back of his eye socket and his cheek bone due to the bone having cancer also. They took muscle and fat from his thigh to pack his eye socket with. The doctors ended up having to cut along his hair line on his forehead and behind his ear down to his neck, and basically peel his face off to do all the removals. A few weeks ago, my mom was cleaning his eye and felt something hard. He has bone coming through his face. We aren't sure if the bone is coming from the back of the eye socket, the cheek bone area, or nasal bone. He has to have surgery to have it shaved down. Also putting some pictures up of him right after his surgery and a day or two later. He looked like Sloth from the goonies. |

Re: Bone Coming Through..
hate that fucking cancer At least he's still alive and wish him a speedy recovery. Was wondering after they shave that bone aren't they afraid that bone will grow again after a year and they have to shave it again ? Good to read his wife is cleaning the eye etc as many would freak out and leave that part of the care to medical personel. |

Re: Bone Coming Through..
I think the dr believes the bone splintered somehow. Maybe when they were cutting it out and it just worked itself forward. It sticks out maybe 1/2in or so. Yeah Mama has always cleaned Daddy's wounds. As have I. My mom was a nurse, I'm currently a nursing student and I have my CNA license. This is the 4th time he has fought cancer. There is still a tumor that is inoperable hanging out, not shrinking or growing, further back of his right eye. he has had too much chemo & radiation now so we just try to keep him pain free and as healthy as we can. There is nothing else the dr can do. |

Re: Bone Coming Through..
He has, but he has fun with it. Ask him how's his eye he will tell you "it went for a walk" (bc of the leg tissue in it) or if he can't get your attention he'll yell out "heyyy you guyyyssss" and we all crack up laughing. People think we are sick bc we laugh and joke around, but hell at this point we have too or we will just be depressed and that's not good for anyone. Speaking of "screw cancer" I had these shirts made for us. |

Re: Bone Coming Through..
I had a similar thing after dental surgery. They're called bone spicules- small pieces of bone which break off and die, but are still part of the body so are neither rejected nor get infected. The body slowly works them to the surface where they eventually poke through the skin and are extracted. I had three large slivers of jawbone work their way out of my gum over the period of about two months. It'd drive me crazy feeling them against my tongue all day and finally yanking them out was always a relief.
