Wow...now you know what the target animal goes through at the minimum. Unless you're needing to eat that beast...what's the point(besides the one in your hand)?

My old coach used to warn kids about this because we were constantly outgrowing our equipment =P He had us check our arrows for length all the time.

Also, the arrow stopped at the fletchings instead of going all the way through his hand, meaning it didn't have very much power behind it. I'm guessing he saw that it slipped off the arrow rest and started to let it down (letting the string slowly and safely go back). And that is a compound bow which means he was probably using a release, which has a trigger to fire. Being new to shooting, he probably just accidentally hit the trigger while letting down. An easy mistake for a newbie to make, hell even experienced archers might do that.
