Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder in which people lose excessive weight and weigh less than is healthy for their age and height. Its exact causes are unknown, although genes, hormones, anxiety, negative self-image, perfectionism and cultural ideals about thinness may play a role.

The disorder often begins during the pre-teen, teen or young adult years. It is more common in females but also occurs in males. Estimated lifetime prevalence among US adults is 0.6%, including 0.9% of women and 0.3% of men. Severe signs can include muscle wasting, loss of body fat, dry yellow skin, fine body hair, sensitivity to cold and bone thinning. Treatment focuses on restoring weight and may include cognitive behavioral, group and family therapy. Relapse is common, and the condition can be life-threatening.

I get how they can picture themselves as 'fat', I see myself as fat, but to let it get this far. Just don't get it. It makes me sick to look at them. Good post rekr.

I once read a story about a young woman who was just about to enter a special clinic for treatment of her anorexia and a few days before her entry she was offered a very nice MODELING CONTRACT.
