Still is. Just have to avoid certain parts of it, same as many American cities. :) Stick to the touristy resort areas and you wouldn't even know all this shit was happening 500 yards away, if not for DR.

When I went on a cruise, we had a day stop in Cozumel. Got off the ship and there were 50 some taxis waiting to take people to the various beaches. The ride was awful, driving in this tiny, beat up taxi the size of a VW bug, speeding down bumpy roads that led to an abandoned beach listening to the driver speak no English...the only to get back was to wait for another taxi to eventually show up.  Four Americans, alone on the "San Francisco beach" all day...literally in the middle of nowhere and there were a few locals but knowing what I know now...holy crap, there is no way in hell I would have done that. Perfect setting for a DR torture murder.  |
