Because China, being a somewhat Buddhist/Taoist country, don't believe in the sanctity of the body? When you die your body is just an empty vessel, also the Chinese view is that if you kill yourself over "minor" things, such as if your life sucks, then you don't get the pity, you're weak and your death is meaningless (honourary suicide, on other hand, is often given as much respect as a natural death, or even more respect). In China we're used to seeing gore like this on a daily basis; car crashes, animals slaughtered in front of customers, suicides... even the government used to put up gory posters of traffic accidents to warn the people. In an overpopulated country the death of one is nothing, the death of a million is a statistic. |
