Woman Fatally Assaulted on the Street with a Gurkha

A woman was fatally assaulted on the street and an individual was noted in the vicinity carrying a knife. A curved-edge (Gurkha kukri) knife was located at the scene. There were multiple incised wounds to the left side of her head and neck. These involved both incisions and comminuted fractures of the skull exposing the underlying brain.

Fig.3 Superior view of the head with scalp reflected showing the two incised wounds on the skull (parietal bone).

The fractures of the skull involved the left skull vault, the left maxilla, and the left mandible. Lateral to the left eye was a laceration 100 mm (3.9") in length, which extended vertically from about the level of the nose to the left lateral temple. The incised injury was associated with fracturing of the underlying bone. In the midline just above the forehead was a slightly curved incision that measured 65 mm (2.6") in length. This was obliquely oriented with its anterior end to the left of the midline. The incised injury was associated with fracturing of the underlying bone. Located on the left frontoparietal was a curved incision 95mm (3.7") in length with ends that had an acute angle.

Fig.7 The curved edge knife located at the scene.

The injury pattern in this case demonstrates the sharp and blunt forces associated with the use of “machetelike” weapons that are wielded in a chopping motion. Spanish-speaking practitioners use the term “cortocontundente” (sharp–blunt) to describe cases where both sharp and blunt forces are involved.

The CT images provided an overview of the extent of injury to the skull including the vault and facial bones. Marked fragmentation and loss of bone in the left skull base can be seen. An indication of the depth of the penetration of the chopping injuries was the presence of the curved left metal ear jewelry deep within the brain. The two more superficial scalp incisions at the vertex were associated with underlying skull fractures. There was no info about the perpetrator. The crime scene ruler says Melbourne, Australia so maybe this happened there.

For some reason I noticed her teeth are really funky. Her two incisors are literally grown in improperly and a lot of crowding.

That is what a 'brutal murder' looks like. That poor lady had a terrible exit from this world. The kukri is a scary weapon.

Skilled Gurkhas can supposedly behead cattle with a single stroke.

The current batches from Nepal that can be found on sale in the net are made from recycled leaf springs. Hard to sharpen, but God damn, they keep an edge and take a beating. I have one that's been with me for 9 years. I've sharpened it only once like 5 years ago. The thing is a monster.
