Happened last night in Mexico. A woman around 30 years old was beaten to death, scalped, had her face skinned off, and was chucked out of a moving car onto the roadway. Current assumption is that her face was removed to make it difficult to identify the corpse.

As a side note, the photo-journalist who took the pic complained vociferously about being chased off by the police. Normally, he'd have gotten a dozen or more photos of this scene, but the cops chased him off and blocked the area after he took a single shot from a distance. This is quite unusual for Mexico, where photo-journalists are usually working right alongside the cops and EMTs. The article went so far as to accuse the police of perpetrating a coverup on behalf of the criminals, as no other reason could be ascertained as to why they would block media access, which is always allowed.
