I'm sorry to bump this from way back, but I've often wondered this ~ what would a funeral director tell the family as far as burial options when it comes to bodies as mangled as these in the pics? I have a friend and her husband who was killed in a plane crash, and the family chose a casket burial (rather than cremation). The caskets were obviously closed, but how is the body laid out in it?

Sharon, you were a mortician, how would this be handled if the body was so mangled and the family insisted on a burial vs. cremation? Is it all put in a plastic bag and just set into the casket? I'm trying to ask the question respectfully, hope I did ok.

Probably just put into a body bag. Somethings just can't be reconstructed.
