Immigration from the United States into Mexico has always been a dangerous and often perilous decision. The US made several attempts to fortify illegal movement in established crossing zones. One intended and reported results of the operation was to funnel illegal movement into geographically inhospitable areas of the Sonora desert in Arizona in an attempt to deter migrants from crossing the border.

As a result of the longer and hotter route through the Arizona desert, border deaths have increased dramatically and not all bodies are identified.
