"African American" is an insulting title- to people who are descended from such places as Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, and Libya. A glance at a map shows that these are all north African countries. I refuse to call ******* "African Americans" for this reason. For one racial group to attempt to appropriate a continent is the height of presumption. Now I come from a generation which uses "*****" as the proper, normal term for racially black folks. There are no negative overtones to this usage. It is no different than calling a Frenchman a "Frenchman" or a plumber a "plumber." I do not accept that a group of people can suddenly (back around the 70's and 80's) decide that this term is somehow demeaning.
