Tourist Crushed and Gored by Elephant
This set has already been posted, but I found better-quality and additional images. In February 2016, 36-year-old British tourist G.N.C. was on holiday in Koh Samui, Thailand, and was participating in an elephant trekking tour. The elephant, nicknamed ‘Golf’ and ‘Rambo’, abruptly stopped during the middle of the trek, however, and went berserk, shaking its passengers off its back before going on a rampage. Most of the tourists escaped, but G., who had a prosthetic leg, was unable to escape the carnage. Rambo crushed him before stabbing him with its tusks. It is not known for sure why the elephant went apeshit. Some sources say the mahout, from Myanmar, forced the elephant to stop walking so tourists could take photos, infuriating the pachyderm. Others say G. himself provoked the beast by shoving some bananas in front of his face. G’s 16-year-old stepdaughter and the mahout survived with injuries. Surprised this doesn't happen more often. The elephants in those types of tourist traps tend to be abused; legitimate elephant camps in Thailand do not allow tourists to ride their elephants.  |
