Re: Teenager Commits Suicide on the Way to School
... You are spot on! I live in the States and grew up in the 60's and 70's, and everything you said about being taught that 'no one loses' and hurt feelings now is true. Parents have dropped the ball, and our government has facilitated that, especially the current one. I have nephews and nieces in your age group, and it's funny, 'cuz one set was brought up the way we were brought up as kids, and the other set ( from my other sibling, raised the same way as I) are handed everything on a silver platter and were hardly ever denied a damn thing growing up. It will be interesting down the road. I could go on forever... |

Re: Teenager Commits Suicide on the Way to School
Interesting to here this sort of thing from someone your age and it confirmed they very things I observe in child rearing in today's society, namely the U.S. (I don't know what it is like in other countries). Yeah, I can go off on a tangeant here but I think you pretty much summed it all up already. However, look at it this way, at least you're level headed, want no part of this bullshit, and seem to have a clear sense of direction in life. Many kids today will not be nearly as lucky. Of course, it doesn't alleviate the fact that we are all still immersed in this lily livered crap whether we want to be or not, so I completely understand your frustration.

Re: Teenager Commits Suicide on the Way to School
I just read yesterday that September 1st has the highest rate of teen suicides in Japan than any other day. It correlates with the beginning of the school year there. The article said some kids are picked and bullied so bad they just can't take it. I know this was not Japan but I just thought of that |

Re: Teenager Commits Suicide on the Way to School
It's interesting you bring this up, because a few weeks ago I was reading about Gen Y and the millennials. Studies show that they are the most narcissistic compared to previous generations. The study also said that they leave home later in life compared to past generations, and overall are more paranoid and afraid. They also are expected to be the least likely to vote, or most likely to vote for socialism.

Re: Teenager Commits Suicide on the Way to School
It's not just from bullies, traditionally teens in Japan start college a lot earlier than their western counter parts and the stress of them not passing their entry exams leads them to suicide. They still have a deep cultural emphasis on getting a good education there, so when a teen is not accepted into a university then tend to off themselves, as strange as it is! You might find this old article from the 80s, interesting. http://www.nytimes.com/1983/07/12/wo...s-destiny.html |
