This teenage girl was leaving the house in the company of her father, who was taking her to her prep school. As they were entering his car, a vehicle pulled up on the lawn and two men got out, with two others remaining inside. They pinned the father to the ground and beat him, while abducting the girl and throwing her in the back of their own car at gunpoint. The father was instructed to go and gather a certain amount of money within two hours time or she would be killed.

Unfortunately, the amount far exceeded what he could pay and her body was discovered about 3 hours later on the side of the road. She had been punched in the face a few times and then slowly strangled to death. Her wrists and ankles were tied. She was assumed to have been dead no more than an hour when her body was discovered. The police confirmed that she was not raped or sexually molested in any way and her body exhibited no signs of trauma aside from a few abrasions to the face and all of the usual signs of death by strangulation.

Neither the girl nor her father had any known criminal ties and she was considered to be a model student.

UPDATE IN CASE: CCTV footage has been turned over to the police that shows the vehicle identified by the father dumping the girl's body by the side of the road. As expected, the timestamp on the video for the body dump is a full HOUR before their last ransom demand came in on the phone.

This case has been solved. The kidnapping and murder were conducted by an incarcerated former boyfriend of the girl's mother. Apparently he had issued ultimatums to the mother and when she did not meet them, he had some of his criminal connections on the outside kidnap the daughter and strangle her to death. There was never an actual intention to ransom. It was a murder from the outset, not a kidnap for ransom. Tough way to go.

That doesn't make sense. They demand a ransom from a total stranger in exchange for his daughter's life when he has no money? Then kill the girl when he can't pay. Must be more to this.

Police are operating under the theory that something went wrong with the kidnapping and the killers came to believe that the girl could ID them, so they choked her to death and called off the whole plan. Police are currently operating under the assumption that at least one of the killers must have been known to the victim.

That all said, in my experience researching these cases for the last ten years, many times the kidnappers have no intention of releasing the hostage and just kill them anyways, even if the money is raised.
