Teen Girl Commits Suicide After Paternal Fight
Teen girl was found hanging by her mother and grandfather, who returned home to discover her body about 40 minutes after they'd previously left her. Lighting isn't the best in the photos, but you'll notice an absence of livor mortis, even in her feet. So she hasn't been hanging long at all. She left a rambling suicide note that was largely accusatory towards her father, who did not live with her but was present in her life. The note essentially said "Daddy- Thank you for showing me that life is hard. Thank you for not letting me pursue my mechanical dreams. I love you, thanks." The note has been interpreted various ways by the press, by the police, by her mother, by social media, and by her friends. Allegations of abuse, as expected, were raised, but nothing substantiated. There were no injuries to her body aside from those associated with hanging. There was also discussion about him refusing to provide the money she needed to enroll in the school she needed to pursue her career aspirations. Several felt that the note indicated she actually wanted to go to vocational school to become a mechanic. Some felt that it was a euphemism for something else. In any event, the translation of the note is not a weird Google Translate contortion. That is pretty much literally what it says. Several people also opined that the scene and note looked staged and that she may have been murdered. I had a couple of misgivings about the scene, in my amateur opinion, but was unable to get additional photos from the news agencies. I spoke with two reporters who were at the site, however. They said that it looked like a legitimate suicide scene to them, that the mother and grandfather believed it to be so and that the mother attested that the note was in her writing. Personally I was a little troubled that her shoes were scattered so far behind her. Typically, if they take the shoes off, they are side-by-side near the scene. If they do not take them off, they are on the feet or scattered beneath the body after kicking. They're just sort of tossed willy nilly, but still clearly removed and not kicked. Then again, hell, for all I know she wasn't even wearing them that day and it is a coincidence. The photos are obscured facially by some of my sources, but you can still see that her tongue is swollen and protruding pretty far out of her mouth. Typically you only see that in a body that's been hanging for a good while. More than the 30-40 minutes assumed here. It can happen during the hanging too, just fairly rare. I was also a bit confused about the staining on her jeans. She clearly had a very full bladder when she asphyxiated and from the front, the directionality of the urine seems fairly typical for a vertical hanging. The shots from the rear, however, show that urine has spread very wide and far across her buttocks, almost up to her belt loop at one point. Combined with the fact that the staining stops right at her knees, a voiding pattern like that would be far more commonly found on a body that was lying supine, probably with her calves hanging over the edge of a bed or dropped surface of some kind. I'm not entirely sure how that much urine could soak that high into her jeans if she was hanging vertical when she emptied her bladder into her pants. Maybe I'm just skittish after that Cambodian political staffer's hanging turned out to be a supine strangulation. Maybe it's just something to do with the tightness of her jeans or the type of underwear she was wearing, whatever. It just looked a bit 'off' to me. The cops, reporters, and her family all seem pretty satisfied that it was a suicide, however, and since I can't get any more photos off of them, I suppose I'll probably agree. Her mother did indicate that she'd been depressed due to 'family problems.' |

Nice find! I would love to get the picture without the white text censoring her head, but impossible to find probably...

I completely agree about the urine pattern. I think she was strangled while lying on a bed, with her calves lying over the edge as you've suggested. I think it's murder made to look like suicide.

Re: Teen Girl Commits Suicide After Paternal Fight
Well, apparently the ligature marks from the noose do correspond with the hanging ligature. Often hard to fake that after a manual strangulation. I suspect they'll be able to more conclusively determine if they perform an autopsy. But lack of injury, no obvious signs of struggle, and the mother and friends acknowledged depression...I am inclined to err in favor of Occam's Razor. There certainly wasn't enough time between the mother coming and going for her to have left the building, been murdered, and then her body dragged back into the apartment at 5:30 in the evening and the hanging staged. And if she was strangled while supine, she would have left a pretty significant puddle of urine on the bed or floor and the forensics team didn't find(or at least didn't note) any such evidence at the scene. I get where you're coming from and, as I said in the OP, it seems a little fishy to me. But when cops, family, and friends all agree that suicide is the most likely cause and her writing matches the suicide note, I reckon maybe I'm overthinking it. I'll keep an eye on the case and post any updates if any arise. |

Really good write up Having had unfortunate experience with sanitary pads and urinary accidents, sometimes as you pee the pad absorbs urine in strange ways, upwards and out not being uncommon. |

That’s very true. I hadn’t even considered that. Great point. Also great post. |

Re: Teen Girl Commits Suicide After Paternal Fight
That handwriting makes no sense. The pacing in some places is consistent with an emotional state, matching the dripping sarcasm of the text, but aside from an issue with the writing implement, there seems to be a variation in both pace and style that, at least in the school I attended, would have been eliminated by that age. Of course, that’s not indicative of anything, nor am I an expert on handwriting (only ever use paper to draw), but it adds to my unease. The logical conclusion is exactly as Vedderman said, and I doubt a fake note would be done in that haphazard layout, but it’s one of those where it would have been nice to know more. The sanitary pad thing sort of covers the spread of urine, as would lowering the body for some reason then returning it to avoid being accused of any tampering (by someone who doesn’t realize that would be evident), and the latter could account for the misplaced set of shoes, but seems odd (the taking down can happen, but by the time you think about that tampering with the scene, you probably realize you should just leave it where you put it and tell them what happened). The shoes and the strokes in the penmanship bother me a lot more than the stain, here, but neither contribute more than that vague sense of unease about ruling this a suicide. I assume tox screens are routine in suicides even in second world countries? |
