Re: Proof of Embalmers' Good Work Decades Later

thanks guys...these pictures are from forensics texts published within the last ten years. Otherwise pictures of this nature are hard to come by it seems and usually the decedent is not personally identified. I do have some more, but these I felt were the best examples regarding very well preserved, embalmed bodies.

It's rather ironic that the seemingly best-preserved of the 4 shown, Evers, was buried the longest (28 years). I have seen pictures of one exhumation of a man buried in the late 1920s, and he too was amazingly well preserved after some 75 years! I will try and find those and post if I do. More to come soon.

They do look well preserved, I don't really understand why people do it though..I'd prefer to decompose like I'm supposed to.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust..

Re: Proof of Embalmers' Good Work Decades Later

These cases were not necessarily intentionally embalmed for long-term preservation, more the conditions they were buried in were favorable to preservation (ie dry soil, sealed vaults). But, bodies shipped long distances, especially internationally often are embalmed "stronger" than usual and that of course can lead to better preservation long-term, but even these cases are exceptional. Usually embalmed bodies dry out if water does not get to them (which is often--vaults often will leak over time), mummify in fact over the years, so why these stayed so life-like is probably a result of strong embalming--with the exception of the last one, each was shipped long distance for internment.

What happens more times than not is NOT pretty at all, not like what we might see on CSI. Often the sight beheld of a body exhumed years after the fact is extremely unpleasant, even when the casket is sealed, due to anaerobic decomposition.

They do look well preserved, I don't really understand why people do it though..I'd prefer to decompose like I'm supposed to.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust..

I will make a second thread with more pictures. (On the reply section here I must link pictures to a URL address, so I will simply make a new thread to post the rest of the pictures instead, as requested by a few people lately).

Medgar Evers still looks like a regular Mac Daddy ready for a night on the town.
