Re: Postmortem Makeup and Reconstruction

They look pretty good. The corpses I've seen for real, of friends etc, look bloody awful so I don't know who did their make-up. They looked nothing like the person they were in life.

Re: Postmortem Makeup and Reconstruction

My brother's hands were starting to look shriveled at his viewing.

It was only three days after his death when we had it.

Don't know if they embalm you if you're being cremated right afterward or not.

Perhaps one of our resident morgue workers knows. (hint, hint)

You can buy makeup with heavy coverage almost like stage makeup.

My boyfriend's sister was cremated and she wasn't embalmed. I found that out cause her mother demanded a viewing after 5 days, they tried to talk her out of it, cause the body wasn't in the best shape by then. when she got her way, she raged about how the body looked. (fluid leaking out of her ears, eyes and nose. plus she had that bluish/greenish tinge.) well, it wasn't embalmed what more do you expect to happen? its the natural process.

Re: Postmortem Makeup and Reconstruction

Some people just like to bitch! My brother looked good. He was out of the pain he was in in this world.

He donated his corneas and skin, which he had alot of. They couldn't put him in his shorts and tee shirts because of that.

It sounds cruel to say he looked better dead, but, he had a little smirk on his face and they may have taken other organs because he wasn't as bloated and red and purple as he was in life.

Thanks for answering my question, julie!

Re: Postmortem Makeup and Reconstruction

I read somewhere that if you wanted to see a loved one again after the postmortem you had to give the mortuary notice so they could thaw the cadaver out.

I don't know where you're located, but here in my area the bodies are embalmed before cremation. It's like extra insurance, they go out of their way to make sure the person looks good before cremation.
