I wouldn't say he was 'mauled' to death, really.. Those marks seem to be mostly from the tiger dragging the man by his neck.  Cause of death is probably asphyxiation from being held down at the throat, or blood loss if the tiger ripped a big vessel. About the tiger being born and raised in captivity, but still knows exactly where to strike: natural instinct is a real thing.  Aiming for the throat is a natural instinct in a lot of predators, not something they have to learn.

I'm stuck between thinking this guy had a death wish (possibly already suicidal and wanted to go out in grandiose fashion?) or he was just an idiot who wanted attention. Either way he had to have known what the outcome would be. Not the tiger's fault whatsoever.
