When I look at these types of pictures, I keep thinking that if I ever off myself, I'd like to keep the mess to a minimum for the sake of the cleaning crews. Probably put myself in a plastic body bag and ensure the areas around me are covered with absorbent material.

Looks to me like he was aiming just a bit too rostral; it's mostly his face that's gone. Frontal lobes might have been taken out, but I'm guessing he "lived" for a few minutes at least with some degree of consciousness. Or maybe the concussion knocked him out and then he bled out. Brains look like they are still pretty much inside the head.
