If his son was constantly involved in trouble, he probably was tired of dealing with it and felt relieved more than anything. I don't blame him at all for pointing how his fuck up of a son lived his life. Better than the typical denial of what their offspring really is with, "He didn't do nothing wrong. He was a good boy."
