Depends on the caliber, muzzle velocity, bullet fragmentation and/or type of weapon to name a few. Shotguns fired at close range or just about any rifle will usually result in greater head trauma than say a .22 caliber pistol. Generally speaking, the higher the velocity and mass of the ballistic, the more damage it will cause. There are other factors I'm sure but I will leave those details to someone more seasoned in the field of ballistics.
