Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Bob Sweikert's fatal wreck at Salem 1955. His sprint car left the track and caught fire 100 feet down an embankment.

Bob had won Indy in 1956, the year that Bill Vukovich lost his life, as well as the National Championship.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Six times Polish National Rally Champion Marian Bublewicz's fatal crash at the 1993 Winter Lower-Silesian Rally. The Ford Sierra Cosworth left the road and wrapped itself around a tree. Marian was alive, terribly injured and trapped inside. His co-driver Ryszard Zyszkowski suffered only a broken arm but it took 40 minutes to get Marian out and he died of multiple injuries six hours later.

Polish National Champion 1983, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1992.
European Championship Runner-up 1992.
Voted the best Polish rally driver of the 20th century by "Auto, Moto & Sport" magazine.
here's the footage of the crash' aftermath... they just show him trapped in there talk about insensitive TV makers...
Btw, how did he manage nog to be bend in weirder ways

Never occurred to anyone to caution flag the race? Son of a bitch that was horrible. Racing just ain't for sissies.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Today is amazing classics day, for some reason the old photos are so much more disturbing to me. maybe its the black and white? Maybe its the "good old days" vibe of simpler times that gets shattered when you look at these photos

One thing is for sure, in the 1930s 40s and 50s there were some skilled photographers that got impossible shots of racing crashes
These cars are the kind my FiL built/raced. Until MiL put her foot down. Husband said that he thought his mother would kill his father when he built one for him as a child. It quickly became a clown car. There are great pics of him sitting in it as a race car AND a clown car.

Husband used to tell me of old old old times when the mechanic raced along with the driver for quick fixes.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

I also tried to post clues so that DR members who didnt know the crash/driver could type in the clues into Google and find more info

Some of the clues sucked im sure

But from here on out names dates and info will be posted with such ferocity that even the avid readers will tell me to shut up
Which driver did Guideposts Magazine name the Flying Lutheran? Was that Sneva? I think it was, but it was so long ago and I'm having brain farts.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Have you any pictures of the Bill Vuklovich (sp) from 1955? There was this one picture where you can see his hand sticking out from his overturned car.

Then many years later his grandson Vuky III dies in a race.

My heart goes out to Vuky II--horrible to lose both father and son to racing.
I have not heard that name in ages.

Super ultra rare color photo of the "Hand"
I believe husband has all of the magazines of "Circle Track" and/or "Open Wheel" back to the first edition? I think he showed me this pic from one of these.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

well, jansen may not have disintegrated in this crash, he sure is pulled apart a lot and it looks like he's only kept together by his clothing or his vertebrae or something? I mean... at one frame he is upside down and about 10 feet tall it seems :s
