Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
This is what is left of the Ferrari 512BB of Tony Adamowicz at the Daytona 24 hours in 1981 after being hit by a Porsche 935 which had burst it's tyre on the banking. Tony said afterwards, 'Just as I put the car into 2nd place, Moretti in his 935 burst a Pirelli tire entering turn 3 of the banking. I took the high side thinking I would avoid him as he spun towards the bottom of the banking apron. He continued to spin towards turn 4 in the banking where he collected my car. I was tapped into turn 4 wall in a spin, and the last thing I could see was a shower of sparks jetting away from the wall as I read the word DAYTONA on the wall. I was concerned that I was going to crash into the concrete barrier backwards, however as soon as the car hit the grassy area, it dug into the ground, plowing to a stop before I hit the concrete. The dirt poured into the cockpit completely filling the inside of my full face helmet. When I took my helmet off, dirt was embedded into my sweaty face and eye area.' |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Great set of photo's showing the crash and fire of Alain de Cadenet's Lola T210 in the 1970 500km of Vila Real. Incredibly the race continued with the flaming wreck in the middle of the track but luckily Alain was uninjuried in the impact and car didn't turn over, so he was able to step out and try to save the car. Alain built his reputation constructing and driving his own sportscars, taking on the full works factory teams and at times even beating them. In 1976 he finished 3rd overall at the Le Mans 24 hours. In 1980 he won two rounds of the World Sportscar Championship at the Monza 1000 kilometers and Silverstone 6 hour events. |

Henri Oreiller was a French alpine ski racer winning two gold medals and a bronze at the 1948 Olympic Games and he was the first Olympic Downhill Champion in 1948 at Saint-Moritz. He took up motor racing in 1952. Ten years later he was killed on October 7th 1962, in a crash at the Linas-Montlhéry autodrome behind the wheel of a Ferrari 250 GTO. He had lost control and crashed the car into the side of a house, and as he was not wearing any safety belt at the time he was impailed in the gear-stick. |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Some photo's of the aftermath of the crash video posted by AlvinKarpis on page 118 of Norm Hall at the IRP Racecourse in 1965. Norm's car left the track crashing through a barrier and rolling over. Hall lost a foot as a result of this accident. Hall drove in the USAC Championship Car series during 1961, 1964, and 1965 seasons, with 17 career starts. He finished in the top ten eight times, with his best finish in 5th position twice in 1965, both at Trenton. |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Another bizarre race car, this time The John Zink Trackburner, a rear engined, turbine powered car, powered by a Boeing 502-10F engine that failed to qualify for the 1962 Indy 500 but was years ahead of its time. Dan Gurney practiced in it at 143mph and then Indy veteran Duane Carter was next to run in the Gas Turbine Trackburner, Carter ran slower in the corners but faster on the straights than Gurney recording a best time of 142 mph. Andy Granatelli's STP Turbine-powered machine nearly won Indy in '67 and '68 until it was banned. But it was this strange little car that paved the way. |

The Mosport race track 1971 and a Formula Ford race prior to the Grand Prix. Early on there had been an incident and an ambulance was brought onto the track without the race being stopped and 37 year old Wayne Kelly attempted to take fourth place touched the car and crashed into the back of the ambulance and was de-capitated. |
