He probably wouldn't have lived anyway...blood loss from just 12 minor stab wounds is significant, much less if they hit any vital organs or major vascular structures (chances are they probably did). That's not counting the gunshot which could penetrate anywhere from 4-12" into the soft tissue. This guy was just screwed.
