Re: High School Teacher Has Great Day in the Country, Aside from That Dead Thing.
you know, I don't get them cartels. Why the teach, why him? Why do the cartels have to feel so damn paranoid about shit? Leave the poor teacher out of it, leave it to his preaching, it's doing good for the community but most importantly it's not harming the cartel in any way. If I were Jose-Manuel the Cartel's strong man sure, I'd decapitate opposing gang members on camera (well, I'd probably just shoot them and be done with it) to send a message, but collateral damage such as killing teachers really is so not necessary and reflect really badly on the organization. I'm just saying. |

Never underestimate the power of knowledge, my friend: ignorance, poverty and desperation are the ideal ground for the drug business to flourish: if one starts explaining to the youngster that the only way to get a real life there is to stay away from drugs and everything drug-related, that will be seen as a very serious threat to their (present and future) business not just by cartels but by drug dealers in general. Sadly the man was fighting his battle alone, and he wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary: all the other teachers, are the cowards If ALL the teachers would do the same, then the scenario would now be very different, but the truth is that there are entire generations of helpless, hopeless and futureless people because men like this one are abandoned to their faith. |

Because great fires come from small sparks, this teacher like some journalists or community activists or web-bloggers may inspire others to rise and stop the cartels, fear of retribution keeps the peasants in line. The cartels know their history, they know what works. Plata O Plomo for the officials(30 pieces of silver or 9mm of lead) "Keep your trap shut, if you know what's good for you" for the peons. |
