It looks a little fishy to me. I think maybe that's a knife in his left hand and it does look like it -(the knife)- is in two separate positions. In one photo he is holding the object, presumably a knife, further back on the handle than the other pi. Also, his left arm/hand is in a slightly different position. What do you folks think & am I just imagining things?

Suicide isn't the answer. Life sucks sometimes...just keep living and eventually good things happen. No point in reacting to an event in such a terminal way.
