I've also known that the concept of the universality of the speed of light was NOT discovered by Einstein, but by the English physicist, James Clerk Maxwell, in his treatise on the theoretial behavior of electromagnetic waves. Thus from his study, and embedded inside his equaltions, the universality of the speed of light was discovered. Einstein used this in his Special Theory of Relativity (actually, it was a paper on the behavior of electric particles, entitled, Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies, published 1905).
