Re: Dying To Fix A Tire
[QUOTE=ianmd3000;5478184]But, I mean it seems like that type of explosion couldn't actually be any more pressurized than normal air-pumping, right? It doesn't look like there was any heat/fire in the equation, AND there would still need to be something metal, or harder than tire rubber to blow skulls apart. "60 Minutes" had a thing on split-rim truck tires years ago. The force available in a truck tire was enough to lift a Chevy Chevette 10 feet in the air. Also, the rim is the dangerous part. It typically catches the worker right in the forhead. They interviewed some guys who had their foreheads all sunk in from tire accidents, and they were the survivors. It pretty much ruined their lives. Tires can be very dangerous! |

Re: Dying To Fix A Tire
Definitely not fix a flat... This tire has a steel belted sidewall, and, if driven on while, it delaminates and weakens. When filling back up to 110 psi, the compromised sidewall explodes. In this case, the side agaist the ground exploded, launching the tire at these unfortunate mens' heads. I wouldnt be surprised if it left a mark in the ceiling too.

Re: Dying To Fix A Tire
I had several farm and tractor tires explode in my hands on my farm. I am blessed that I only broke several of my fingers. It is not surprising that agricultural worker is the fifth most dangerous job in California and throughout the world. |
