On the morning of 25th November 2021 in Miches (Dominican Republic), 8 people died when a boat capsized.

At the Celedonio beach, members of the Dominican Republic Navy have recovered 8 bodies (6 women + 2 men) from the boat + rescued 23 people (15 men + 7 women) alive.

The boat had been on the way to Puerto Rico, despite the Navy having announced that it was dangerous to be out on the water.


FEMALE VICTIMS:
26 year old R.E.E.C. (leaves 2 children).
30 year old Y.P.
29 year old Y.U.M.
31 year old A.G.V.
29 year old H.M.A.A.
J.F. (leaves 2 children + was 4 months pregnant)

Burials took place the next day.

10 people are still missing + 4 days later, they still hadn't been located. Their relatives + friends fear the worst.

wtf.... DR is half of an island... which means they are surrounded on 3 sides with water.... not every boat is US bound.

But yes, USA has insane refugee policies. However, it's not that easy to gain refugee status. Either way, these people were probably in transit to another part of the island and not to USA.

Puerto Rico is just due east of DR. It's a US territory, and a pretty solid welfare state. It's usually where Dominicans spirit themselves to.

Those people are the ones who would say they don’t want a dictatorship in their country like countries in South America or Cuba but then come to the US and vote for the same policies that damaged their country. I’m seeing this with Dominicans and Puerto Rican’s in NYC.
