She braked and slid - you can see the skid marks behind the car. And yes, a bumber guard would have prevented the car from going under the trailer - this is just the type of accident those are made to prevent, by causing the main impact to occur at the level of the engine on a sedan and stopping the car before the trailor can directly hit the driver/passengers.

I dont know if the "DOT" bumper is even known about in other countries. It does make a nice step for climbing in and out of trailers tho.

I see people all the time tailgating. This is the consequence. Even if the truck hit the break real hard. It's your responsibility to secure your brake space in front of you. You're not going faster by taking all the space in front of you, it's stupid.
