Looks like there is a layer of metal fastened to that wood. You can see it in curling outward through the front in the first photo.

Girl on the news the other night had a 15 cm (~6") diameter wooden pole go through her pelvis and out her back. She was fine, walking and everything. They said she cant have kids anymore, but that was the only thing wrong with her. Edit: Added a pic  |
